First-Ever KEY DATE ‘Prior Year’ Struck Gold Eagle
Key Date $25 Gold Eagles are among the most stable and profitable coins available on the coin market, with over 30 years of positive performance! For example, in March of 2020 the entire world shut down due to COVID-19. During the following two years, gold has performed about as expected - maintaining its value while mainstream investments have collapsed. During that same span of time Key Dates as a whole increased a whopping 134%.
In 2020, NGC began acknowledging Early Production ‘struck in prior year’ coins for backdated U.S. Mint products. In order to qualify for this designation, coins must be in original sealed mint packaging and dated prior to December of the previous year. Full, sealed backdated boxes of Gold Eagles are exceedingly rare, with boxes usually opened, graded, and sold off in the same year they are issued. For the first time ever, an entire box of ‘Key Date’ $25 American Gold Eagles was left untouched in an anonymous vault - for eight years!
Not only is this the first 2014 box of its kind that NGC has ever seen, this represents a first-ever event for a “Key Date” production year. Since the “First Day” pedigree did not exist in 2014, these Early Production-Struck in 2013 pieces represent the rarest pedigree ever to be given to a Key Date $25 Gold Eagle.
