2016(15) $25 "Early Production" American Gold Eagle MS-70 NGC Iskowitz

In 2020, NGC began acknowledging Early Production coins for backdated U.S. Mint products. In order to qualify for this designation, coins must be in original sealed mint packaging and dated prior to January 31^st of the production year. (i.e., a box of 2003 silver eagles dated January 5, 2003). Additionally, if packaging is dated prior to December 31^st of the previous year, they qualify for further pedigree as struck in the prior year. (i.e., a box of 2003 silver eagles dated December 10, 2002).

Full, sealed backdate boxes of Gold Eagles are exceedingly rare, with boxes usually opened, graded, and sold off to collectors and investors in the same year they are issued. Under unknown circumstances, a box of 2016 ½ oz. Gold Eagles was left untouched in an anonymous vault for the last 5 years.
